Teaching kids conservation and sustainability

The Willunga environmental program is developed within Willunga Primary School to actively engage student in the real world of sustainability.

By including and creating ownership of the environment, students develop a further interest and care in the work they do and strive to go on to more extensive training and education in the higher years of schooling.

Projects and focus in include:

  • Visits to the creek
  • School vegetable garden
  • Nude food days
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle
  • Many natural play areas being developed

Willunga Primary School also established the Douglas Mawson Award to celebrate the student each year that has shown outstanding work in the natural environment.

Orchid Club

A lunch time activity in which a number of children volunteer to care for a grow a number of orchids. In 2017 & 2018, this group attended the Royal Show and won an award for their work.
